SUBJECT: Changes to the websites associated with the HADS

         system effective December 13, 2016

On or about December 13, 2016, the websites associated with the

Hydrometeorological Automated Data System (HADS) will point to

new URLs. As part of internal NWS infrastructure upgrades, HADS

is being integrated into the Meteorological Assimilation Data

Ingest System (MADIS), which will be upgraded to release 2.1.5

on December 13. The following changes can be expected as a

result of HADS becoming part of MADIS:

The old HADS public website home pages formerly at the following

URLs:

http://www.nws.noaa.gov/oh/hads

http://www.nws.noaa.gov/ohd/hads

http://www.weather.gov/oh/hads

http://www.weather.gov/ohd/hads

will be available starting December 13 at

https://hads.ncep.noaa.gov

The content will remain the same throughout the website, however

many .html links have been changed to .shtml.

Users that have the HADS pages bookmarked will need to also

remove the path oh/hads or ohd/hads from the URL.  Example:

http://www.nws.noaa.gov/oh/hads/USGS/

will be available at:

https://hads.ncep.noaa.gov/USGS

The old HADS public website used a second server named

http://amazon.nws.noaa.gov

for dynamically serving HADS data. Example:

http://amazon.nws.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/hads/interactiveDisplays/displayMetaData.pl?table=dcp&nwsli=

FDKM2

The dynamically served data will be available on

https://hads.ncep.noaa.gov

Example of accessing the same data using the new website:

https://hads.ncep.noaa.gov/cgi-

bin/hads/interactiveDisplays/displayMetaData.pl?table=dcp&nwsli=FDKM2

The old URL for the anonymous FTP access to the HADS RRS SHEF

products and other text files was:

ftp://amazon.nws.noaa.gov/pub/hads/shef_products/

The new URL with the same content will be:

ftp://madis-data.ncep.noaa.gov/hads/shef_products/

Under this URL will be subdirectories for the Weather Forecast

Offices (WFOs), River Forecast Centers (RFCs), National

Operational Hydrologic Remote Sensing Center (NOHRSC), National

Center for Environmental Prediction (NCEP), and National Center

for Environmental Prediction (NCEI), and Mesowest.

Stakeholders who pull data from the HADS Public Website using

wget will need to use the command line option --no-check-

certificate when running the command.
