SUBJECT:  Updated: Transition to operational status of offshore

and high seas gridded forecasts from the NHC TAFB and

the offshore gridded forecasts from the OPC in the

Atlantic Basin effective February 6, 2018

Updated to change the implementation date to February 6, 2018,

or the next available non-critical weather day.

Effective on or about Tuesday, February 6, 2018, the

experimental offshore and high seas gridded forecasts from the

Tropical Analysis and Forecast Branch (TAFB) of the National

Hurricane Center (NHC) and the offshore gridded forecasts from

the Ocean Prediction Center (OPC) will transition to operational

in the Atlantic Basin. The five elements transitioning to

operational are:

-10-meter wind speed

-10-meter wind direction

-10-meter wind gusts

-significant wave height

-marine hazards.

Transitioning these forecasts to operational status is another

milestone for the NWS National Digital Forecast Database (NDFD).

Users do not need to take any action when the experimental

forecasts transition to operational status. Gridded forecasts

from TAFB and OPC over the Pacific Basin and from OPC in the

rest of its high seas domain over the Atlantic, will remain

experimental. Another Service Change Notice (SCN) will be issued

when they are ready to move to operational status.
