Subject:     Four NWS Southern Region Weather Forecast Offices 

             (WFOs) will stop issuing tropical cyclone 

             forecast products effective on or about 

             June 1, 2017

 

Effective on or about June 1, 2017, four WFOs will no longer

issue local tropical cyclone products:

 

WFO Albuquerque (ABQ)

WFO Amarillo (AMA)

WFO El Paso (EPZ)

WFO Lubbock (LUB)  

 

Based on tropical cyclone climatological return periods and

feedback from local emergency management, the WFOs listed above

will no longer issue the WFO Hurricane Local Watch/Warning

Product (WFO TCV) and Hurricane Local Statement (HLS). These

office will, instead, use the Non-Precipitation Warning (NPW)

products when hurricane or tropical storm force winds from a

tropical cyclone are expected to impact their area of

responsibility.

 

Below is a listing of tropical products, these office are

discontinuing and their AWIPS Product Identifiers (PIL) and

World Meteorological Office (WMO) Code.
