SUBJECT: Change to depiction of sustained winds around tropical

          cyclones on Ocean Prediction Center forecast charts

         Effective Thursday June 30, 2017


Effective Thursday June 30, 2017, the NWS National Centers for

Environmental Prediction's (NCEP) Ocean Prediction Center (OPC)

will change the depiction of sustained winds around tropical

cyclones depicted on its surface and wind/wave forecast charts. 


Wind barbs on those OPC charts will depict the actual sustained

wind as forecast by the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Central

Pacific Hurricane Center (CPHC), or the Joint Typhoon Weather

Center (JTWC) as applicable.  Previously, the depiction of such

wind barbs was capped at 35 kt.


Users do not need to take any actions to continue receiving

these charts.
