Subject: Updated: The Ocean Prediction Center is upgrading its
website effective September 26, 2017
Updated to change implementation to September 26, 2017, or on
the next available non-critical weather day.
Effective Tuesday September 26, 2017, the NWS Ocean Prediction
Center (OPC) website
will be upgraded to new formatting currently available for review at:
This change represents the first major upgrade to the OPC website since 2002.
Additionally, the URL will change from

This change provides content through a more secure connection.
The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) directive describing
the requirement to only provide service through https can be
The new format provides an improvement of service over the
current website format, including easier navigation and a
cleaner look and feel with better support for mobile devices.
The new format will also bring the OPC website in line with
other recent NWS web formatting upgrades.
Please note that mainly the formatting of the website will
change on September 26. No changes have been made to any
operational products. In addition, the old URL,
www.opc.ncep.noaa.gov, will automatically redirect to
ocean.weather.gov for approximately 6 months. Users
do not need to take any action now but should update their
bookmarks after the September 26 transition.
