Subject:   NWS transferring forecast and warning responsibility for

           METAREA XVI to Directorate of Hydrography and Navigation of the

           Navy of Peru (DHN) Effective June 30, 2017

 

At the request of the Directorate of Hydrography and Navigation of the

Navy of Peru (DHN), and in coordination with the World Meteorological

Organization, NWS will officially transfer meteorological forecast and

warning responsibility for METAREA XVI to DHN, effective June 30, 2017,

at 1800 UTC.  The DHN will subsequently be the sole official Issuing and

Preparation Service for METAREA XVI.

The High Seas Forecast and Warnings for METAREA XVI will be prepared by

the NWS Tropical Analysis and Forecast Branch (TAFB) of the National

Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami, FL, until 1715 UTC June 30, 2017.

Dissemination of these forecasts and warnings via SafetyNet will be the

responsibility of NWS Telecommunication Operations Center (TOC) until 

1715 UTC June 30, 2017.   

 

The NWS will no longer routinely issue the High Seas Forecast product,

WMO header below, for METAREA XVI after 1715 UTC June 30, 2017.

NWS shall provide primary backup service to DHN when necessary. Backup

service will be limited to rebroadcasting and/or preparation of the

METAREA XVI forecast and warnings when DHN is unable to perform those

services. When backup is requested for forecast preparation, the TAFB and

NWS TOC will prepare and disseminate the forecast following previously

employed procedures.  All relevant contact information has been provided

by NWS to DHN in the event backup service is required.
