Subject: Amended: Addition of RAP products to NOAAPORT:
Effective November 19, 2012
Amended to reschedule the addition
of products that had been delayed. The original TIN 11-19 referred
to this as the addition of Rapid Update Cycle (RUC) products to NOAAPORT, but
the RUC model has since been replaced by the Rapid Refresh model (RAP). The WMO headers remain the same as they were
for the RUC.
Effective
on or around Monday, November 19, 2012, the National Centers for Environmental
Prediction (NCEP) will begin disseminating additional products from the Rapid
Refresh (RAP) model on NOAAPORT and the Satellite Broadcast Network
(SBN).
Currently,
RAP products on pressure levels on a 13km grid are available out to forecast
hour 12 for the 0, 3, 6 ... 21 UTC cycles, and out to 9 hours for the 1, 2, 4,
5... 22,
23 UTC
cycles. Starting
with this implementation, RAP 13km output out to forecast hour 18 will be
available for all 24 cycles of the RAP.
The
products will be available with WMO headers L*D*** KWBG. More details of
the WMO headers can be found at:
http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/changes/rap13wmo_headers.shtml
These
RAP products are currently made available on the NCEP server and can be
retrieved at:
http://www.ftp.ncep.noaa.gov/data/nccf/com/rap/prod/
or
ftp://ftp.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/data/nccf/com/rap/prod
in files with names
rap.tXXz.awp130pgrbfYY.grib2, where XX is the model cycle and YY is the
forecast hour.
NCEP
urges all users to ensure their decoders can handle changes in content order,
changes in the scaling factor component within the product definition section
(PDS) of the GRIB files, and volume changes. These elements may change with
future NCEP model implementations. NCEP will make every attempt to alert users
to these changes before implementation.
