Subject:    Amended: Addition of SREF Products to NOAAPORT to

            Support Ensemble River Forecasts at RFCs Effective

            March 26, 2014


Amended to reschedule the implementation from February 26, 2014,

to March 26, 2014


Effective on or around March 26, 2014, beginning with the 1500

Universal Coordinated Time (UTC) model runs, the National Centers

for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) will begin disseminating

additional products from the Short Range Ensemble Forecast (SREF)

System on NOAAPORT and the Satellite Broadcast Network (SBN). 

These products are being added to support the Meteorological

Model Ensemble River Forecasts (MMEFS) being generated by the

Northeast, Middle Atlantic, Ohio, and Southeast River Forecast

Centers. The MMEFS forecasts are online at:


The SREF products being added are the total accumulated

precipitation (ACAP) and the 2 meter AGL temperature. These SREF

products will be on a 32 km Lambert Conformal grid (Grid # 221)

from each of the 4 daily cycles of the SREF (03, 09, 15, and 21

UTC) for forecast projections at 3-hourly increments from 00 to

87 hours. 


The data will be transmitted in GRIB2 format with the following

WMO header format:

The T1 and A2 combination specifies the forecast time (ranging

from 00 to 87 hours).


If T1=L, then the forecast hour for A2 is: A=00, B=06, C=12,

D=18, E=24, F=30, G=36, H=42, I=48, J=60, K=72, L=84.


If T1=M, then the forecast hour for A2 is: B=03, E=09, H=15,

K=21, L=27, O=33, P=39, Q=45, R=51,  M=54, S=57, Z=63, N=66,

Z=69, Z=75, T=78, Z=81, Z=87.


A1 = E Grid ID # 221 (North American Master Grid - Lambert



T2 specifies the parameters as follows:  E = Total

Precipitation  (APCP), T = Temperature 2 m above ground (TMP)


ii specifies the levels as follows: 98 = surface of Earth
