Inland Flooding Impact of Hurricane Zwieback: This is an example, NOT a real hurricane.

Inland flooding can be a major threat to communities hundreds of miles from the coast, as intense rain falls from these huge tropical air masses.

Remember, intense rainfall is not directly related to the wind speed of tropical cyclones.

In fact, some of the greatest rainfall amounts occur from weaker storms that drift slowly or stall over an area.

Coastal Flooding

Low Prepare for the likelihood of minor flooding of low lying areas, with little or no property damage. Some flood prone-roads may be closed for brief periods of time.
Moderate Prepare for the likelihood of moderate flooding and flash flooding, resulting in some road closures. Some low lying structures may be flooded.
High Prepare for the likelihood of widespread flooding and flash flooding. Extensive damage to buildings and some transportation systems from high water and debris is likely, resulting in many long-term road closures. Some secondary roads may be closed for the long-term.
