Tornadic Impacts Definitions

None Impact - No tornadoes expected.
Low

Threat - Up to three tornadoes expected.

Impact - Isolated tornadoes possible.

One to three tornadoes possible. These tornadoes will likely be of EF1 intensity or less (winds of 110 mph or less). Tornadoes of this intensity can significantly damage or destroy outbuildings and cause major damage to mobile homes. Older, weaker mobile homes may be destroyed. Numerous trees will be uprooted or snapped by the winds of the tornado.

Moderate

Threat - Three to five tornadoes expected, one or two may be EF-2 intensity.

Impact - Isolated to scattered tornadoes possible.

Three to five tornadoes possible. While these tornadoes are expected to generally be of EF1 intensity or less, one or two of these tornadoes may meet or exceed EF2 intensity (Winds greater than 111 mph).

EF2 tornadoes are capable of destroying mobile homes and causing moderate damage to frame houses. Some older, weaker frame houses will receive significant damage or be destroyed. Light cars may be moved by the wind. Trees and power poles will be snapped.

High

Threat - Five to Ten tornadoes expected, a few of EF-2 Intensity or greater possible.

Impact - Scattered to numerous tornadoes possible.

Eight to twelve tornadoes possible. Some of these tornadoes may reach EF2 intensity or greater (winds of 111 mph or greater).

Tornadoes of EF2 intensity are capable of destroying mobile homes and causing moderate damage to frame houses. Some older, weaker frame houses will receive significant damage or be destroyed. Light cars may be moved by the wind. Trees and power poles will be snapped.

Tornadoes of EF3 intensity or greater will be capable of destroying all mobile homes and causing significant damage to frame and brick homes. People should seek shelter in a strong, reinforced structure if a tornado strikes.

Extreme

Threat - More than 10 tornadoes expected, several of EF-2 intensity or greater.

Impact - Hurricane Ivan-like Tornado Outbreak Expected.

More than twelve tornadoes expected. Several of these tornadoes will meet or exceed EF2 intensity (Winds greater than 111 mph).

Tornadoes of EF2 intensity are capable of destroying mobile homes and causing moderate damage to frame houses. Some older, weaker frame houses will receive significant damage or be destroyed. Light cars may be moved by the wind. Trees and power poles will be snapped.

Tornadoes of EF3 intensity or greater will be capable of destroying all mobile homes and causing significant damage to frame and brick homes. People should seek shelter in a strong, reinforced structure if a tornado strikes.
