How to Temporarily Stop CRS from Broadcasting Particular Message Type (PIL)

One way to temporarily stop CRS from broadcasting a specific type of product is to change the name of the message type on CRS.  Any incoming products that carry the original message type (PIL) will be unable to find the message type record under its new name.  These products will be placed in the Voice Conversion Error directory without broadcasting.

NOTE:  All incoming products (test or actual) using the original message type (PIL) will not be broadcast during this time.

To change the message type name before the VTEC test:

On main CRS screen go to “Messages” pull-down menu

Select “Message Types”

Using the scroll menu on the “Message Type” field, select the desired message type

Change at least one character in the message type name (this is a 9 character field, so you must replace a character with something else)

Write down the Before and After names since you’ll have to change the name back after the test after the test

Save using the icon at the upper left

Run the VTEC test

To change the message type name back after the VTEC test:

Clear any test messages out of the Voice Conversion Error Directory via weather message correction.

On main CRS screen go to “Messages” pull-down menu

Select “Message Types”

Using the scroll menu on the “Message Type” field, select the message type that you changed earlier

Change at message type name back to its original name

Save using the icon at the upper left
