Turn Around Don’t Drown Sign Grant Opportunities
WFO Morristown has pointed the way for the Emergency Management community, State Farm Insurance Company, and Wal-Mart to purchase Turn Around Don't Drown® (TADD) warning signs with grant money. Both State Farm Insurance and Wal-Mart offer grant programs that can be used by the local EMs for the purchase of TADD signs. While the NWS is not allowed to apply for these grants directly, they can alert the EMs in their area of these grant opportunities.
The State Farm grant is entitled "Safe Neighbors Grant." Information regarding this grant is available at the following link: http://www.statefarm.com/about/part_spos/grants/cogrants.asp
The applicant will have to request the grant application from their regional state farm center. As an example, in Tennessee, the regional headquarters are in Murfreesboro, TN. The application is a 2-3 page word document that is reported to be easy to complete.
The Wal-Mart company also offers grants through their local stores (including Sam's Club). The county emergency managers and other related county officials can pick up this easy,
2-page application form from Wal-Mart’s customer service department via either the store/assistant store manager or designee. Each Wal-Mart and Sam's Club operates independently, so if a county has 6-8 Wal-Marts and Sam's Clubs, then they can separately apply for grants at the 6-8 locations. The only limitation to this grant program is that if the county is approved, then they cannot apply for any other grants with the local Wal-Mart store until one year has passed.
