Before running the scripts, check to see if your machine can reach the TG by pointing your browser to ftp://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov. If you get a response, you can proceed by starting edex, ingesting nam and ruc model data, and then displaying with cave's new gfe perspective the grids generated by edex. Here's how. o fire up EDEX by starting postgres, then activemq, and then mule, as per usual o tail mule's log, which can be found in /edex/mule/logs. is where you installed edex (/awips by default). o run Matt's scripts, getrun80.py and getnam12.py. You should see output like awips2@mclaren:~$ ./getruc80.py |tee /tmp/getruc80.txt --09:26:04-- ftp://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov/SL.us008001/ST.opnl/MT.ruc_CY.13/RD.20081103/PT.grid_DF.gr2/fh.0001_tl.press_gr.us80km => `fh.0001_tl.press_gr.us80km.20081103.13' Resolving tgftp.nws.noaa.gov... 140.90.128.71 Connecting to tgftp.nws.noaa.gov|140.90.128.71|:21... connected. They should be current (same day -- not "0000"). If they're not, close the window and wait 5 mins. Once OK is clicked on a recent grid, it will be loaded into the Grid Manager (as per awips I). Click on a grey area in one of the Grid Manager's weather elements and a grid will be displayed. Scribe out an area with the "Draw Edit Area" tool. It's the hatched area icon. ("Draw Edit Area" is the mouseover text.) Then call up the list of smartTools by clicking on the "Edit Action Dialog" icon (the 'E' icon). Click on a smartTool like AdjustValue_Down or AdjustValue_Up first and watch your element change. Notice how other tools are grid type dependent, just like in awips1. (Try running MaxRH_Tool on weather element T, for example, and see that an error is generated.)
