The NWS/WR Hydrology Research to Operations Meeting was held October 4-6, 2005 in Park City, Utah. There were approximately 80 people in attendance. 20 unique non-NOAA institutions were represented. The meeting included talks describing NOAA and NOAA/NWS programs and offices, customer perspectives, and the state of hydrology science. In addition, a session was included at the end of the meeting for discussion on how to better connect research with operations. This discussion highlighted the NOAA/NWS operational hydrology priorities from both River Forecast Center (RFC) and Weather Forecast Office (WFO) perspectives:

  • Data assimilation (RFC)

  • Improved forecast and observed forcings for hydrologic models (WFO and RFC)
  • Hydrologic forecast verification (RFC)
  • Treatment of regulation in forecasts (RFC)
  • Maintenance factors (RFC)
  • Small stream forecasts (WFO)
  • Flash flood guidance (WFO)
  • Innundation mapping (WFO)
  • Training (WFO)
