Earth System Modeling Framework

Goal:  To increase software reuse, interoperability, ease of use and performance portability in climate, weather, and data assimilation applications.

  • ESMF applications consist of one or more model components and if necessary a coupler.  All are written by the modeler(s).

  • The coupler uses the ESMF superstructure to transfer information between model components.

  • The ESMF superstructure (and model components and coupler if necessary) uses the ESMF infrastructure to provide the object-oriented multi-platform characteristics.
