Soil Moisture vs. Temperature over U.S.

This figure shows correlations between surface temperature and soil moisture over US continent in the lag of 1 to 2 months.   Large negative correlations can be seen in the target months during summer, when  late spring soil moisture has significant impact on summertime surface temperature.
