Contracts were awarded on January 7, 2000, to two radiosonde manufacturers (Sippican, and InterMet Systems) for the development and submission of GPS radiosondes for evaluation by the National Weather Service.   Those products determined to meet the NWS radiosonde specification will be placed on a Qualified Products List, from which future acquisitions will be made.  Initial delivery of the prototype radiosondes is scheduled for June 15, 2000.
