Module 1 addresses the growing need due to Impact-Based Decision Support Services (IDSS) for improved communication with our Core Partners. Module 1 provides a description of the crisis communication cycle model and uses actual stories of IDSS that the NWS provided during 2010-11. These stories include well-known events such as the Deepwater Horizon Gulf Oil Spill and the Enbridge Oil Spill in Michigan. Module 1 contains a Quiz that provides completion basis for that module in the Learning Center. The duration for Module 1 is 2.5 hours. Module 2 of the Course (due out later in April) contains methods of getting stakeholder information useful for IDSS. The intended audience for Communicating Risks in High-Impact Events is all NWS staff who will be providing communication to Core partners to support various types of IDSS activities. The WDTB Course web site contains all useful information for implementation this training.
Throughout the AWIPS-2 Operational Test and Evaluation (OT&E), the NWS Training Division has been developing and releasing preliminary training materials for OT&E sites. As AWIPS-2 development has matured, some of the training materials have reached their anticipated final form, while other preliminary materials continue to change significantly with changes in the AWIPS-2 software. In order to provide sites the maximum amount of time possible to prepare for the operational roll out of AWIPS-2, the Training Division has started making both operational and preliminary training materials available through the NWS Learning Center.
The Training Division has developed AWIPS-2 training materials in three areas:
System Administration
Audience - ESAs and ITOs
Format - residence course with online prerequisite module
Application Focal Point Transition
Audience - AWIPS application focal points
Format - distance-learning configuration overviews and exercises for AWIPS applications with prerequisite AWIPS-2 foundational modules
User Transition
Audience - all AWIPS users
Format - distance-learning web pages, exercises, and job aid reference covering the differences between AWIPS-1 and AWIPS-2

Over the coming months as AWIPS-2 concludes its final changes and the training is updated, the Training Division will post change logs to the "preliminary" courses in the LMS to assist students in preparing to complete the final operational training.
