PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL HAS CAUSED FLOODING OF SMALL
CREEKS AND STREAMS...COUNTRY ROADS...AS WELL AS FARMLAND ALONG THE
BANKS OF CREEKS AND STREAMS.

BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE
DANGERS OF FLOODING. IF FLASH FLOODING IS OBSERVED ACT QUICKLY. DO
NOT ENTER THE WATER. TURN AROUND AND MOVE UP TO HIGHER GROUND TO
ESCAPE FLOOD WATERS. DO NOT STAY IN AREAS SUBJECT TO FLOODING WHEN
WATER BEGINS RISING.

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS
SAFELY.

PRECAUTIONS
IMMEDIATELY.**

RIVERS AND STREAMS ACROSS THE COUNTY ARE STILL FLOWING VERY HIGH
THIS AFTERNOON...WITH MANY STILL AFFECTED BY ICE. WHILE THE ICE JAM
ON THE AROOSTOOK IN FORT FAIRFIELD HAS RELEASED...THE RIVER GAUGE AT
MASARDIS IS STILL INDICATING AN ICE JAM IS IN PLACE NEARBY. ALTHOUGH
RIVER LEVELS ALONG THE LOWER STRETCHES OF THE AROOSTOOK HAVE
DROPPED...THERE IS STILL THE POTENTIAL FOR ADDITIONAL FLOODING UNTIL
ALL THE ICE HAS FLUSHED FROM THE RIVER.

THERE ARE ALSO SIGNS OF ICE JAMS CONTINUING TO AFFECT THE SAINT JOHN
RIVER...PARTICULARLY IN THE STRETCH FROM ALLAGASH TO FORT KENT.
WHILE NO RIVER FLOODING IS CURRENTLY ONGOING ALONG THE SAINT
JOHN...PERSONS ALONG THIS WATERWAY SHOULD REMAIN ALERT FOR RAPIDLY
CHANGING CONDITIONS.

IN ADDITION...MANY ROADS ACROSS THE COUNTY REMAIN CLOSED THIS
AFTERNOON DUE TO EFFECTS FROM YESTERDAY`S RAIN AND SNOWMELT. THE
LIST OF CLOSED ROADS INCLUDES BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO:

IN FORT FAIRFIELD:
ROUTE 1A BRIDGE
RIVERSIDE AVENUE
GRIMES ROAD
MAIN STREET AT PUDDLEDOCK

IN WASHBURN:
ROUTE 164 BETWEEN WASHBURN AND PRESQUE ISLE

IN HOULTON:
PORTER SETTLEMENT ROAD
COUNTY ROAD

IN MAPLETON:
PULCIFER ROAD
HUGHES ROAD

PRESQUE ISLE:
HENDERSON ROAD
FORT FAIRFIELD ROAD PARTIALLY CLOSED

MANY ROADS ACROSS THE COUNTY REMAIN CLOSED IN ADDITION TO THESE
LISTED ABOVE. WITH TEMPERATURES DROPPING INTO THE TEENS
TONIGHT...RUNOFF WILL SLOW ALLOWING WATER LEVELS TO DROP.

PLEASE REMEMBER...YOU SHOULD NEVER CROSS A FLOODED ROAD. OBEY ALL
ROAD CLOSURE SIGNS AND DO NOT DRIVE AROUND OR MOVE BARRICADES.
PERSONS ARE URGED TO STAY AWAY FROM ALL ICE JAMS AND FLOODED RIVERS
AND STREAMS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS
SAFELY. MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.
