FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ANCHORAGE AK
357 PM AKDT SAT MAY 28 2016

...RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM AKDT SUNDAY FOR
THE SUSITNA VALLEY...

.DISCUSSION...
WARM TEMPERATURES AND NORTHERLY WINDS WILL BRING FIRE WEATHER CONCERNS
TO PARTS OF THE SOUTHCENTRAL. RIDGING ALOFT IS BRINGING DRY
CONDITIONS AND WARM AFTERNOON/EVENING TEMPERATURES TO MUCH OF THE
MAINLAND...HOWEVER THE COMBINATION OF LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY AND
INCREASING WINDS WILL ALLOW FOR RED FLAG CRITERIA TO BE MET IN THE
SUSITNA VALLEY.

FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR ALASKA
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ANCHORAGE AK
357 PM AKDT SAT MAY 28 2016

.DISCUSSION...
HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE AREA WILL CONTINUE TO BRING WARMING AND DRYING CONDITIONS
TO THE SOUTHWEST MAINLAND THROUGH SUNDAY. OFFSHORE FLOW WILL ALSO INCREASE
SUNDAY AFTERNOON/EVENING AS A SURFACE TROUGH DEVELOPS OVER THE INTERIOR
SOUTHWEST...BRINGING GUSTY NORTHEASTERLY WINDS ALONG WITH WARM AND DRY
CONDITIONS TO THE KUSKOKWIM RIVER VALLEY AND DELTA. THIS ALLOWED THE FIRE
WEATHER WATCH TO BE UPGRADED TO A RED FLAG WARNING WITH GOOD CONFIDENCE.
OVER THE ALASKA RANGE...ENOUGH INSTABILITY WILL DEVELOP ON SUNDAY TO BRING
SHOWERS AND A SLIGHT CHANCE OF WET THUNDERSTORMS THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING.

SLIGHTLY COOLER WEATHER WILL THEN MOVE INTO THE AREA ON MONDAY AS AN UPPER
LEVEL DISTURBANCE APPROACHES FROM THE EAST...BRINGING INCREASED CLOUDCOVER AND
SHOWERS THAT SHOULD PERSIST INTO TUESDAY. THERE WILL ALSO BE ENOUGH
INSTABILITY ASSOCIATED WITH THIS DISTURBANCE TO PRODUCE A FEW WET
THUNDERSTORMS THROUGHOUT THE REGION.
