FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR SOUTHEAST WYOMING/WESTERN NEBRASKA
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CHEYENNE WY
335 PM MDT FRI OCT 24 2014

.DISCUSSION...
GUSTY WEST WINDS WERE PREVALENT ACROSS THE FORECAST AREA THIS
AFTERNOON WITH SPEEDS APPROACHING 20 TO 25 MPH. THIS COMBINED WITH
LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITIES AND UNSEASONABLY WARM TEMPERATURES
PRODUCED NEARLY CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS THIS AFTERNOON IN
PARTS OF SOUTHEAST WYOMING AND THE NEBRASKA PANHANDLE. TOMORROW
IS EXPECTED TO BE VERY SIMILAR TO TODAY`S EXTREMES WITH REGARDS
TO TEMPERATURES AND HUMIDITY VALUES. HOWEVER...WIND SPEEDS MAY BE
A BIT LIGHTER IN RESPONSE TO A WEAK TROF DEVELOPING ON THE LEE
SIDE OF THE ROCKIES. A PACIFIC FRONTAL BOUNDARY IS EXPECTED TO
PUSH THROUGH THE AREA SATURDAY NIGHT AND CAUSE SOMEWHAT COOLER
TEMPERATURES AND HIGHER HUMIDITY VALUES ON SUNDAY.

FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR WESTERN
AND NORTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NORTH PLATTE NE
333 PM CDT FRI OCT 24 2014

.DISCUSSION...

ANOTHER COUPLE DAYS OF WELL ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES BEFORE A
STRONG COLD FRONT MOVES ACROSS THE DISTRICTS TO COOL THINGS OFF ON
MONDAY. ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED FOR BOTH
SATURDAY AND SUNDAY AS WINDS GUST UP TO 25 MPH...HIGHS RISE TO THE
UPPER 70S/LOW 80S AND DRY AIR AT THE SURFACE DROPS RELATIVE
HUMIDITY TO 20-30 PERCENT. FOR SATURDAY...FIRE ZONES 204 AND 210
WILL SEE HIGHEST FIRE DANGER WHILE SUNDAY WILL BE MOST OF WESTERN
AND NORTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA. STRONG NORTHWEST WINDS WILL FOLLOW
THE COLD FRONT ON MONDAY...BUT ADVANCING COOLER AIR WILL MINIMIZE
ANY FIRE THREATS. THEN FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE WEEK...NEARER TO
NORMAL TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED WITH ANOTHER POTENTIAL WARM-UP
FOR THE NEXT WEEKEND.

FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR S CENTRAL NE AND N CENTRAL KS
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HASTINGS NE
550 AM CDT FRI OCT 24 2014

.DISCUSSION...THE MAIN ISSUE TODAY WITHIN THE DISTRICT IS A BIT OF
A "CLOSE CALL" WITH NEAR-CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER
CONDITIONS...ESPECIALLY IN THE FAR WESTERN COUNTIES SUCH AS
DAWSON/GOSPER/FURNAS/PHILLIPS. OTHERWISE...CONFIDENCE REMAINS
HIGH IN DRY WEATHER THROUGH AT LEAST THIS WEEKEND.

TODAY IS ONE OF THOSE DAYS WHERE ALTHOUGH ONE OF THE TWO CRITICAL
FIRE WEATHER ELEMENTS MAY MEET THRESHOLDS FOR A FEW HOURS (IN
THIS CASE RELATIVE HUMIDITY OF 20 PERCENT OR LESS)...THE OTHER
PRIMARY FIRE DANGER THRESHOLD OF SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS/GUSTS OF
AT LEAST 20 MPH/25 MPH LOOKS TO FALL SHORT. MORE SPECIFICALLY AND
STARTING WITH RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES...ALTHOUGH MINIMUM RH
ACROSS MOST OF THE DISTRICT THIS AFTERNOON IS PROGGED TO BOTTOM
OUT GENERALLY IN THE 25-35 PERCENT RANGE...AT LEAST A LIMITED AREA
IN THE FAR WEST (MAINLY WEST OF AN ORD-HOLDREGE-PHILLIPSBURG LINE)
COULD SEE VALUES DROP A FEW PERCENTAGE POINTS EITHER SIDE OF THE
CRITICAL 20 PERCENT LEVEL. TURNING TO WINDS HOWEVER...SUSTAINED
WEST TO NORTHWEST BREEZES ACROSS MOST OF THE DISTRICT SHOULD
LARGELY AVERAGE ONLY 10-13 MPH WITH GUSTS LARGELY UNDER 20 MPH.
GIVEN THESE RELATIVELY UNIMPRESSIVE BREEZES...NOT ONLY DOES
OVERALL FIRE DANGER TODAY FALL SHORT OF CRITICAL LEVELS THAT MIGHT
REQUIRE HEADLINES...BUT IT EVEN FALLS SHORT OF NEAR-CRITICAL
LEVELS. AS FOR OTHER FIRE WEATHER ASPECTS TODAY...MIXING HEIGHTS
ACROSS MOST OF THE DISTRICT ARE EXPECTED TO TOP OUT IN THE 2-4
THOUSAND FOOT RANGE...WITH ANY HIGHER LEVELS MOST FAVORED IN FAR
SOUTHERN AND WESTERN COUNTIES.

TURNING TO SATURDAY...INITIALLY LIGHT EASTERLY BREEZES WILL
GRADUALLY INCREASE TO AROUND 10 MPH OUT OF THE SOUTHEAST DURING
THE AFTERNOON. RELATIVE HUMIDITY LEVELS ACROSS MOST OF THE
DISTRICT SHOULD HOLD UP A BIT HIGHER THAN TODAY...WITH MOST PLACES
FORECAST TO BOTTOM OUT BETWEEN 30-40 PERCENT.

THE NEXT GENERALLY SLIGHT CHANCES FOR RAIN ENTER THE PICTURE
MONDAY INTO MONDAY NIGHT...BUT THIS DOES NOT CURRENTLY LOOK LIKE A
MAJOR RAIN PRODUCER.
