FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR UPPER MICHIGAN
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MARQUETTE MI
510 AM EDT TUE OCT 21 2014

...DECREASING CLOUDS TODAY THEN SHOWERS RETURN THURSDAY OVER THE
WEST...

.DISCUSSION...HIGH PRESSURE BUILDING OVER THE AREA TODAY WILL LEAD TO
DECREASING CLOUDS ACROSS UPPER MICHIGAN. THIS AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE
WILL REMAIN IN PLACE THROUGH WEDNESDAY...THEN AN UPPER LEVEL
DISTURBANCE AND WEAK COLD FRONT WILL MOVE INTO WESTERN UPPER MICHIGAN
FOR WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND THURSDAY. IT IS BECOMING MORE LIKELY THAT
MEASURABLE RAIN WILL OCCUR OVER THE WESTERN U.P. ON THURSDAY AND HAVE
TRENDED RAINFALL AMOUNTS UP TO A QUARTER OF AN INCH. LOCALIZED
HIGHER AMOUNTS ARE POSSIBLE DUE TO THE SLOW MOVEMENT OF THE SYSTEM.
AS THE RAIN TRIES TO PUSH INTO EASTERN UPPER MICHIGAN...IT WILL
ENCOUNTER EXISTING DRY AIR WHICH WILL LIMIT RAIN CHANCES. BEHIND THIS
SYSTEM...HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD BACK OVER THE AREA FOR FRIDAY. A
DRY COLD FRONT WILL SWEEP ACROSS UPPER MICHIGAN LATE FRIDAY NIGHT AND
LEAD TO A BREEZY SATURDAY. ADDITIONAL RAIN IS POSSIBLE SUNDAY NIGHT
INTO MONDAY AS ANOTHER SYSTEM MOVES THROUGH THE REGION. BELOW NORMAL
TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TUESDAY...THEN TEMPERATURES WILL BE AT OR
ABOVE NORMAL THROUGH THE UPCOMING WEEKEND.

...CLOUDY WITH SCATTERED RAIN SHOWERS THROUGH THIS EVENING...

.DISCUSSION...A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM MOVING SOUTHEAST OVER LAKE HURON
TODAY WILL LEAD TO CLOUDY SKIES AND SCATTERED RAIN SHOWERS. THE BEST
OPPORTUNITY FOR MEASURABLE RAIN WILL COME OVER THE HIGHER TERRAIN OF
NORTH CENTRAL UPPER MICHIGAN...BUT RAINFALL AMOUNTS SHOULD REMAIN
BELOW A TENTH OF AN INCH. HIGH PRESSURE BUILDING OVER THE UPPER GREAT
LAKES LATE TONIGHT INTO TUESDAY WILL BRING DRIER AIR TO THE AREA AND
LEAD TO DECREASING CLOUDS ON TUESDAY. THIS HIGH WILL STAY IN PLACE
THROUGH WEDNESDAY BEFORE A WEAK COLD FRONT DISSIPATES OVER UPPER
MICHIGAN LATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT INTO THURSDAY. AT THIS TIME...EXPECT
THE BEST OPPORTUNITY FOR RAIN LATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND THURSDAY TO
BE OVER WESTERN UPPER MICHIGAN. AFTER EXPERIENCING BELOW NORMAL HIGH
TEMPERATURES TO START THE WEEK...HIGHS WILL BE NORMAL OR ABOVE NORMAL
FOR THE SECOND HALF OF THE WORK WEEK.
