Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Wrn Montana and N Cntrl Idaho
National Weather Service Missoula MT
346 AM MDT FRI JUL 3 2015

...FIRE WEATHER WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF NORTHWEST MONTANA/WEST
CENTRAL/SOUTHWEST MONTANA FORESTS...

.DISCUSSION...

Idaho: High pressure will persist through Sunday continuing the
hot and dry conditions with afternoon terrain driven winds and
strong thermal belts at night. A weather system moving into the
region from Canada will break down the high pressure ridge. Expect
some cooler temperatures and slightly higher RHs. General winds
will become more easterly though felt mainly on ridges. Otherwise
expect terrain driven diurnal winds. A weak disturbance will move
over the region and produce isolated thunderstorms Tuesday and
scattered thunderstorms Wednesday.

Montana: Hot temperatures and low humidity will persist through
Saturday. Expect some afternoon breezes today. Confidence is
increasing that WESTERLY WINDS WILL INCREASE SATURDAY POSSIBLY
PRODUCING RED FLAG CONDITIONS. The strongest winds are likely to
occur in Northwest Montana as gusts in the 30s are possible.
SATURDAY EVENING AND OVERNIGHT a strong cold front will push
across the Divide. The first impact will be a sudden shift of
winds from the west, to northeast, in Northwest Montana. Winds
should remain strong through Sunday afternoon. Saturday evening
and overnight, thunderstorms are becoming more likely, especially
along the divide and Glacier NP.

Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Wrn Montana and N Cntrl Idaho
National Weather Service Missoula MT
410 PM MDT THU JUL 2 2015

...FIRE WEATHER WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF NORTHWEST MONTANA/WEST
CENTRAL/SOUTHWEST MONTANA FORESTS...

.DISCUSSION...

Idaho: Conditions will remain hot and dry through Saturday.
Terrain will remain warm day and night. High pressure will break
down on Sunday, with ridge winds shifting to the east across the
forests. Day and night humidity will be relatively higher Monday
through Thursday next week. There is only a slight chance of
precipitation next Wednesday, but will be concentrated over high
terrain along the Montana/Idaho border. Otherwise, conditions on
the ground with remain quite dry.

Montana: Hot temperatures and low humidity will remain the story
through Saturday. Afternoon breezes will also be present. POSSIBLE
RED FLAG CONDTIONS will develop across portions of western
Montana forests on Saturday, as a cold front moves south over the
area. Strong wind gusts combined with low humidity will peak
Saturday afternoon. Lightning associated with the cold front
passing will also be a threat. Any wetting rain that occurs is
most likely over the high terrain. A cooler and higher humidity
northwest flow will be present Sunday through next Thursday, with
ridge winds shifting to the east. The next chance for any wetting
rains will be Wednesday next week, with the best chances for
northwest Montana, particularly near Glacier Park, and along the
Continental Divide southward to southwest Montana.

Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Wrn Montana and N Cntrl Idaho
National Weather Service Missoula MT
420 AM MDT THU JUL 2 2015

...Very Hot and Dry through Saturday...

...Increasing westerly winds Saturday in West Central and Northwest
   Montana...

.DISCUSSION...

Idaho: The main fire weather impact will be very Hot and dry
conditions through Saturday with very low min RHs and strong
thermal belts in the overnight hours. This high pressure ridge
over the area will weaken Sunday resulting in a slightly cooler
airmass with a westerly flow aloft. Confidence is increasing for a
pattern change by early to middle of next week. This change will
increase the potential for scattered thunderstorms.

Montana: Today through Saturday will be very hot and dry with
strong thermal belts overnight.

The main fire weather hazard or concern will be INCREASING
WESTERLY WINDS late FRIDAY BUT ESPECIALLY SATURDAY in West Central
and Northwest Montana. These winds will shift and be from the
east/northeast by Saturday night and Sunday morning as a weather
disturbance moves into the region from Alberta, Canada. In
addition to shifting winds, this system will bring cooler
conditions with temperatures near normal and an increasing
potential for precipitation.

Confidence is increasing for a general pattern change the middle
of next week to more unstable conditions with scattered
convection each afternoon and evening.
