835 AM MST WED DEC 17 2014

FORECAST IS BASED ON IGNITION TIME OF 0845 MST ON DECEMBER 17.
IF CONDITIONS BECOME UNREPRESENTATIVE...CONTACT THE NATIONAL WEATHER
SERVICE.

.DISCUSSION...
A SERIES OF WEAK UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCES WILL PASS OVER THE REGION THROUGH
TONIGHT. EACH DISTURBANCE WILL PROVIDE SUFFICIENT LIFT TO GENERATE BANDS OF
LIGHT RAIN/SNOW DEPENDING ON ELEVATION. SNOW LEVELS LOOK TO HOLD AROUND 6500
FEET THROUGH THE DAYLIGHT HOURS AND DROP TO AROUND 6000 FEET AFTER SUNSET.
HIGH RESOLUTION FORECAST MODELS SHOW UP TO 7 INCHES OF SNOW FOR NEIGHBORING
PEAKS WITH 3 TO 4 INCHES OF TOTAL SNOWFALL NEAR THE AREA OF INTEREST THROUGH
DAYBREAK THURSDAY. MIXING HEIGHTS WILL BE RISING TO AROUND 4000 FEET AS THE
DAY PROGRESSES. THIS COUPLED WITH A STEADY INCREASE IN 20 FOOT WIND SPEEDS
WILL RESULT IN FAIR VENT RATES MOVING INTO THE GOOD CATEGORY BY MID TO LATE
MORNING TODAY. THURSDAY WILL FEATURE SLIGHTLY HIGHER MIXING LEVELS BUT LOWER
TRANSPORT WIND SPEEDS. EVEN AT THIS VENT RATES SHOULD STILL MANAGE TO REACH
THE FAIR CATEGORY FOR THURSDAY. A FINAL DISTURBANCE WILL PASS SOUTH OF THE
REGION LATE THURSDAY. SOME LIGHT SNOW ACCUMULATION IS STILL POSSIBLE THURSDAY
BUT AMOUNTS SHOULD BE NO MORE THAN A COUPLE OF ADDITIONAL INCHES.

FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR SILVER LAKE HAND PILES...NM-LNF

1100 AM MST MON DEC 15 2014

FORECAST IS BASED ON IGNITION TIME OF 1200 MST ON DECEMBER 15.
IF CONDITIONS BECOME UNREPRESENTATIVE...CONTACT THE NATIONAL WEATHER
SERVICE.

.DISCUSSION...
HIGH CLOUDS WILL BE STREAMING IN OVER THE REGION THE NEXT 24 TO 36 HOURS
BUT DRY CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE TO BE THE NORM. TERRAIN DRIVEN WINDS
HAVE SHIFTED MORE SOUTHERLY WITH DAYTIME HEATING AND INCREASED SLIGHTLY.
IN RESPONSE...DEW POINTS ARE A COUPLE OF DEGREES HIGHER WHICH WILL RESULT
IN MIN RH VALUES A LITTLE CLOSER TO 30 PERCENT. UNFORTUNATELY WITH A RIDGE
IN PLACE ALOFT...MIXING HEIGHTS REMAIN VERY LOW. UPDATED FORECAST SOUNDINGS
CONTINUE TO INDICATE A MAXIMUM MIXING HEIGHT OF NO MORE THAN 2000 FT AGL.
SO DESPITE SLIGHTLY STRONGER AFTERNOON WIND SPEEDS THROUGHOUT THE MIXED
LAYER...VENT RATES CALCULATIONS REMAIN WELL ENTRENCHED IN THE POOR
CATEGORY. WITH THE RIDGE SHIFTING EAST WE WILL SEE SLIGHTLY DEEPER MIXING
FOR TUESDAY AFTERNOON THAT SHOULD ALLOW FOR ENOUGH IMPROVEMENT IN
VENTILATION TO PUSH VENT RATES INTO THE FAIR CATEGORY. AT THE SAME TIME
MIN RH VALUES WILL HOVER AROUND 30 PERCENT THROUGH THE AFTERNOON.

.REST OF TODAY...

SKY/WEATHER.........PARTLY CLOUDY (30-40 PERCENT).
CWR.................
MAX TEMPERATURE.....42-47.
MIN HUMIDITY........27-29 PERCENT.

WIND (20 FT)........WEST 7 TO 12 MPH SHIFTING TO THE
SOUTHEAST 7 TO 9 MPH AFTER MIDNIGHT.
MIXING HEIGHT.......200-500 FT AGL.
TRANSPORT WINDS.....SOUTH AROUND 5 KNOTS.

FORECAST IS BASED ON IGNITION TIME OF 0910 MST ON DECEMBER 15.
IF CONDITIONS BECOME UNREPRESENTATIVE...CONTACT THE NATIONAL WEATHER
SERVICE.

.DISCUSSION...
A SOMEWHAT ACTIVE PATTERN WILL CONTINUE THIS WEEK WITH A COUPLE OF
STORMS PASSING THROUGH. TODAY/TUESDAY VERY FEW CLOUDS WITH NORMAL TO
SLIGHTLY ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES. STORM NUMBER ONE WILL MOVE IN
LATE WEDNESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY. SHOWERS COULD START AS EARLY AS
WEDNESDAY EVENING OVER THE GILA ZONE AND SPREAD TO THE REST OF THE
AREA THROUGHOUT THURSDAY. SNOW LEVELS START OUT AROUND 7500 FT BUT
FALL TO 6500 FT THURSDAY AND THEN TO AROUND 5000 FT THURSDAY NIGHT
AS THE PRECIPITATION ENDS. THE MOUNTAIN ZONES COULD SEE MODERATE TO
HEAVY SNOW.

MEANWHILE MIN RH VALUES WILL DROP TO AROUND 28 PERCENT TODAY AS DRY
AIR CONTINUES TO FILTER IN BEHIND THE DEPARTING STORM SYSTEM. 20 FT
WINDS WILL REMAIN RATHER LIGHT AND PRIMARILY FROM THE NNW AT SPEEDS
BELOW 10 KTS. TYPICAL DRAINAGE WINDS WILL PREVAIL OVERNIGHT BUT SHOULD
REMAIN LIGHT AS THEY TAKE ON A SOUTHERLY COMPONENT. SOUTH WINDS WILL
CONTINUE TUESDAY AND INCREASE SLIGHTLY TO AROUND 10 KTS WITH BRIEF
GUSTS TO 15 KTS. AT THE SAME TIME A SLIGHT INCREASE IN DEW POINT WILL
HELP INCREASE MIN RH VALUES TO NEAR 30 PERCENT FOR TUESDAY.

VENT RATES WILL LIKELY BE OF CONCERN...ESPECIALLY TODAY AS A RIDGE
ALOFT WILL LIMIT MIXING AND RESULT IN VENT RATES IN THE POOR
CATEGORY ACROSS THE REGION. MIXING HEIGHTS WILL IMPROVE BY ABOUT
1000 FEET AND TRANSPORT WINDS THROUGHOUT THE MIXED LAYER WILL ALSO
INCREASE SLIGHTLY FOR TUESDAY. EVEN THOUGH THE VENT RATE WILL ONLY
IMPROVE INTO THE FAIR CATEGORY FOR TUESDAY AFTERNOON.
