RANGELAND FIRE DANGER STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SIOUX FALLS SD
355 AM CDT THU OCT 23 2014

.DISCUSSION...
DRY AND WARM CONDITIONS WILL PERSIST THROUGH THE WEEKEND. GENERALLY
LOOKING AT MODERATE FIRE DANGER THROUGH SATURDAY...WITH WINDS
STAYING LOW ENOUGH TO PREVENT ANYTHING WORSE. SOUTHERLY WINDS WILL
BE ON THE BREEZY SIDE SUNDAY...WHICH COULD PUSH SOME OF THE AREA
INTO HIGH FIRE DANGER. THE NEXT CHANCE OF RAIN LOOKS TO BE ON
MONDAY...ALTHOUGH AT THIS TIME AMOUNTS LOOK TO BE LIGHT.

RANGELAND FIRE DANGER STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SIOUX FALLS SD
430 AM CDT TUE OCT 21 2014

.DISCUSSION...
INCREASING SOUTHERLY FLOW IS EXPECTED TODAY...WITH THE STRONGEST
WIND SPEEDS OF 20 TO 25 MPH AND GUSTS NEAR 35 MPH EXPECTED IN
AREAS NEAR AND WEST OF A DE SMET TO LAKE ANDES LINE. WHILE THESE
AREAS WILL INITIALLY SEE A SLIGHT INCREASE IN NEAR SURFACE
MOISTURE LEVELS...STRONG AFTERNOON MIXING WILL BRING DRIER AIR
DOWN FROM ALOFT...RESULTING IN MINIMUM HUMIDITY LEVELS FROM 30 TO
40 PERCENT. THIS COMBINED WITH DRY FINE FUELS WILL LEAD TO VERY
HIGH FIRE DANGER FOR THOSE AREAS FROM THE LOWER BRULE THROUGH THE
MIDDLE JAMES RIVER VALLEY...WITH HIGH TO MODERATE FIRE DANGER
FARTHER TO THE EAST.

BREEZY CONDITIONS WILL SHIFT EAST ON WEDNESDAY. HOWEVER...DEEPER
MOISTURE IS EXPECTED WITH AN INCREASING CHANCE OF SHOWERS. THUS
THE FIRE DANGER SHOULD REMAIN LOW TO MODERATE FOR MOST AREAS...
THOUGH PARTS OF SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA MAY BRIEFLY SEE A HIGH FIRE
DANGER IN THE EARLY AFTERNOON BEFORE SHOWERS MOVE INTO THE AREA.
MILD WEATHER WILL CONTINUE INTO THE WEEKEND WITH NO PRECIPITATION
EXPECTED.

PLEASE BE CAREFUL WITH FIRE...GRASS FIRES CAN MOVE VERY QUICKLY.

420 AM CDT MON OCT 20 2014

.DISCUSSION...
A MILD WEATHER PATTERN WILL REMAIN IN PLACE ACROSS THE REGION
THROUGH THE WEEK AHEAD...AND INTO THE UPCOMING WEEKEND. DAYTIME
TEMPERATURES WILL GENERALLY BE 5 TO 15 DEGREES ABOVE SEASONAL
NORMALS...WITH HIGHS IN THE 60S AND 70S EXPECTED. STRONGER WINDS
WILL ACCOMPANY THE WARMTH TUESDAY...WITH WIND GUSTS OF 20 TO 30
MPH COMBINING WITH MINIMUM HUMIDITY LEVELS OF 30 TO 40 PERCENT IN
AREAS NEAR AND WEST OF THE JAMES RIVER TUESDAY AFTERNOON. THIS
WILL LEAD TO A VERY HIGH GRASSLAND FIRE DANGER IN THESE AREAS ON
TUESDAY. THE STRONG WINDS WILL EXPAND EASTWARD ACROSS THE AREA ON
WEDNESDAY. HOWEVER INCREASING HUMIDITY LEVELS AND PRECIPITATION
CHANCES WILL KEEP THE FIRE DANGER IN CHECK. DRY WEATHER WILL THEN
RETURN THURSDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND.
