* WINDS...NORTHWEST 5 TO 15 MPH.

* VISIBILITIES...A QUARTER MILE OR LESS AT TIMES IN THE HEAVIEST
  SNOW.

* IMPACTS...LAKE EFFECT SNOW AND AREAS OF BLOWING SNOW WILL LEAD
  TO SNOW COVERED ROADS. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL BE PREPARED FOR
  DIFFICULT WINTER DRIVING CONDITIONS WITH POOR VISIBILITIES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

IN LAKE EFFECT SNOW THE WEATHER CAN VARY FROM LOCALLY HEAVY SNOW
IN NARROW BANDS TO CLEAR SKIES JUST A FEW MILES AWAY. IF YOU WILL
BE TRAVELING ACROSS THE REGION BE PREPARED FOR RAPID CHANGES IN
ROAD AND VISIBILITY CONDITIONS.

IF YOU LOSE POWER AND PLAN ON RUNNING A GENERATOR...MAKE SURE
THAT THE GENERATOR IS LOCATED OUTDOORS AND IS PROPERLY
VENTILATED. SPACE HEATERS SHOULD ALSO BE PROPERLY VENTILATED AND
USED ONLY IF THEY ARE OPERATING PROPERLY. MAKE SURE SNOW DOES NOT
BLOCK EXHAUSTS AND FRESH AIR INTAKES FOR HIGH EFFICIENCY FURNACES
AND WATER HEATERS.

* ACCUMULATIONS...TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 3 TO 6 INCHES... WITH
  MUCH OF THE SNOWFALL OCCURRING EARLY THIS MORNING AND AGAIN
  OVERNIGHT. THE HIGHER TERRAIN IN SOUTHERN ONONDAGA AND SOUTHERN
  MADISON COUNTIES WILL SEE THE MOST SNOWFALL.

* IMPACTS...LAKE EFFECT SNOW AND GUSTY WINDS WILL PRODUCE BLOWING
  AND DRIFTING SNOW WHICH WILL MAKE TRAVEL DIFFICULT AT TIMES.

* WINDS...NORTHWEST 10 TO 15 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 30 MPH.

* TEMPERATURES...IN THE UPPER 20S TODAY BUT DROPPING INTO THE
  TEENS OVERNIGHT.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A LAKE EFFECT SNOW ADVISORY MEANS LAKE-EFFECT SNOW IS FORECAST
THAT WILL MAKE TRAVEL DIFFICULT IN SOME AREAS. LAKE-EFFECT SNOW
SHOWERS TYPICALLY ALIGN THEMSELVES IN BANDS AND WILL LIKELY BE
INTENSE ENOUGH TO DROP SEVERAL INCHES IN LOCALIZED AREAS. USE
CAUTION WHEN TRAVELING.

...Narrow Bands of Lake-effect Snow to Impact the Region this
Morning...

At 933 AM EST, Doppler radar indicated narrow lake effect snow bands
over the central and eastern Mohawk Valley. Snowfall is locally
moderate to heavy within this area.

This narrow band of lake effect snow will remain over central
Montgomery and western Schenectady counties through the next hour,
including the following locations: Nelliston and Palatine Bridge.

Narrow bands of lake effect snow will move across the area.  These
localized bands will produce near whiteout conditions and hazardous
travel.  These snow bands may be only a few miles wide...so be on
the lookout for rapidly deteriorating conditions.  These snow bands
could produce snowfall rates of greater than one inch per hour.
Please use extreme caution while traveling.

Moderate falling and blowing snow will allow for significantly
reduced visibility.  This includes a portion of the New York State
Thruway, mainly between exits 26 and 29.

At 926 AM EST, Doppler radar indicated a narrow lake effect snow
band over Summit in Schoharie County extending towards Preston
Hollow in southwestern Albany County. Snowfall is locally moderate
to heavy within this area.

This narrow band of lake effect snow will remain over mainly rural
areas of northeastern Western Greene...central Schoharie and
southern Western Albany Counties.

Narrow bands of lake effect snow will move across the area.  These
localized bands will produce near whiteout conditions and hazardous
travel.  These snow bands may be only a few miles wide...so be on
the lookout for rapidly deteriorating conditions.  These snow bands
could produce snowfall rates of greater than one inch per hour.
Please use extreme caution while traveling.

Moderate falling and blowing snow will allow for significantly
reduced visibility.  This includes a portion of Interstate 88,
especially between exits 19 and 20.
