Software Development and Software Management Projects
- Aviation Forecast Preparation System (AvnFPS): AvnFPS is an AWIPS application that helps forecasters monitor weather conditions and prepare and quality control their aviation forecasts. AvnFPS also monitors a variety of guidance sources, including IFPS grids, model guidance, conditional climatology, and other sources.
- Central Product Generation (CPG): The CPG project is developing techniques that can produce the Selected Cities Summary (SCS) and Travelers Forecast (TVL) products, using data from the NDFD.
- Forecast Uncertainty (FcstUncert): The FcstUncert project focuses on quantifying the uncertainty associated with single-valued forecasts in the NDFD. These techniques use recent NDFD performance and related guidance derived from Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) models to infer the expected distribution of observations for that weather element.
- Local Applications Database (LAD): The LAD is a central distribution and information point for all NWS applications developed locally at NWS Weather Forecast Office (WFO) sites..
- Smart Tool Repository (STR): The STR is a central distribution, and information point for all smart tools, smart initialization, consistency script, and text formatters created within the NWS for the Gridded Forecast Editor (GFE).
