Subject:  New Surf Zone Forecast (SRF) products for West Coast

and change to existing SRF formats Effective

          December 16, 2015

Effective Wednesday, December 16, 2015, NWS Weather Forecast

Offices (WFOs) in Monterey, CA, and Medford, OR, will begin

issuing Surf Zone Forecast (SRF) products. Additionally, formats

for the current SRF products issued by WFOs in San Diego, CA,

Oxnard, CA, and Eureka, CA will implement a new format,

consistent with WFOs Monterey and Medford.

SRF products provide valuable and life-saving information

pertaining to hazards in the surf zone and to beachfront

communities, including information on expected surf conditions.

Audiences for the SRF include the general public and providers

of beachfront safety services, such as lifeguards and park

rangers. Specific information content for these SRF products

will be tailored to local partner and user needs. Each of the

NWS offices listed in the below will disseminate a local Public

Information Statement (PNS) with more detailed information,

including specific content and local dissemination times, prior
